What are your thoughts about educational toys?
Recently, as many children spend most of the time at home, they try to be active and physically moving instead of holding a pen. Among these, toys are indispensable!! This is the most efficient and straightforward reason parents and children enjoy together.
Parents are also looking for many other activities considering the situation, such as children’s enjoyment and concentration.
Then what are the toys that can maximise the effectiveness of education?
- Effect of educational toys that enhance STEM (science, technology, mathematics, etc.) competency?
- Popular toys are essential?
- What are the best toys that parents can choose?
Is it essential buying a toy?
Many parents are looking for toys that their children can enjoy together after seeing educational effects. Therefore, the price of toys goes up according to the standard and is the day to make new toys every year. However, let’s focus on using toys, not expensive, educational, or accidental toys. It is essential to think about what toys to use to enhance and enjoy the child’s educational aspects rather than toys.
Then, how about online?
In the developing world, we have begun to create and find programs that can be done online through the Internet rather than everything being physical. It has the advantage that anyone can enjoy it easily, quickly, and simply with a computer without buying toys outside. Nevertheless, buying toys cannot be ruled out, which is an educational point that can be given to children with the emotional development and tightness of children.
Among the numerous toys, we have one that goes up every year as a toy of honour. Among them, sand rises, which is the most traditional and familiar, suggests that it can exert the most educational effect.
Lego blocks are one of them. It is a suitable toy for improving a child’s characteristics, composition, or expression while assembling. Among them, what parents can refer to is advice to use location language and relationship language.
For example, you can explain to the child where the block is. You can consider the number of blocks, composition, design, and language acquisition.
The focus of this game will have an educational effect in that it allows the child to take the initiative but suggests a way. It will also form a bond with parents through play and help develop positive emotions.
In addition, experts say that all these processes are helpful for children to express their thoughts and learn the appropriate vocabulary necessary for them through the act of talking while playing. You can also experience a series of scientific problem-solving methods such as mathematical arithmetic concepts, observations, estimations, plans, and decisions by counting blocks or thinking about the necessary materials.
I took Lego Block as an example now, but if parents could provide a place for children to experience this problem-solving method in person, the scope of toys with educational effects would be endless.
Professor Yelland also argues that board games related to achieving goals are helpful in a similar case. By making children think of various ways to play games to achieve specific goals, they develop plans and strategies, experience wins and losses, and learn how to deal with them. According to Professor Yelland, of course, there are toys designed to promote learning about certain STEM subjects, such as science and mathematics. Still, these toys should not be considered the only educational toys.
Even if only a few children gather, they often have fun with corrugated cardboard or sticks, and this kind of playground also proves that anything can be a good toy in an environment where children can create and hang out.
In the end, I think today concludes that rather than buying a specific toy, it gives children an environment where play can be made freely and provides them with an opportunity to immerse themselves in what they enjoy and share their thoughts through interest and conversation.
